Materials & Quality
Metals
Our jewelry is crafted with metals chosen for both durability and style. We use the same high-quality stamping metals trusted by jewellers for our rings, along with aluminum sourced from other small business suppliers in Canada for our charms, pendants, rings, and stamped designs. All of our chains are stainless steel, making them strong, hypoallergenic, and resistant to tarnish — perfect for everyday wear. With proper care, your pieces will stay shiny and Western-tough for years to come.
Navajo Pearls vs Cowgirl Pearls
What is the difference between authentic Navajo pearls and Cowgirl Pearls?
This is a great question! Cowgirl Pearls are also known as oxybeads, hematite beads, or sterling silver beads. Initially it's the price difference that sets them apart. Authentic Navajo pearls are more expensive than sterling silver pearls, which are also called Cowgirl Pearls here at Branded by Turquoise. While both pearls are made of sterling silver, the process of how they are made is what sets the apart. Authentic Navajo pearls are handmade, each bead is handmade then oxidized to give the dark colour and strung on foxtail wire. The authentic Navajo pearls have a handmade French hook instead of a machine-made hook or clasp. The beads will have a physical "seam" in the metal compared to machine made beads & they will always be stamped by the creator.
Unfortunately, some boutiques and other turquoise shops fail to explain or label the difference on their pearls. BE AWARE and don't be afraid to ask your seller questions. If you see pearls labeled "Navajo pearls" but are not the price typically seen on authentic pearls, ask questions!
Clarify with them before you purchase! My goal here is not to put down other boutiques, my goal here is to educate you as the consumer to ensure that you know EXACTLY what you are paying for!
Turquoise and Stones
Now that our store and product lines are growing, we are starting to work with genuine turquoise and stones sourced from Arizona, and prices may reflect that upgrade for pendants and statement pieces. Our faux turquoise is still available for everyday wear around the farm, in the barn, or in the arena. As our genuine turquoise pieces are crafted to stand out when you want something a little bolder.
We fully support buying real turquoise from Native artists and encourage shoppers to seek out authentic pieces when possible — our goal is simply to provide a beautiful, budget-friendly alternative that anyone can enjoy.
